{"id":815,"date":"2012-01-05T21:41:45","date_gmt":"2012-01-05T20:41:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/lornemitchell.com\/blog\/?p=815"},"modified":"2012-01-05T23:13:33","modified_gmt":"2012-01-05T22:13:33","slug":"on-sustaining-the-gains","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.lornemitchell.com\/?p=815","title":{"rendered":"On Sustaining the Gains (and Losses)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>You are probably past the point of setting New Year\u2019s resolutions and have forgotten the one you set last year.\u00a0 Yet when you look back a year and look forward a year, it is surprising how little changes and how much stays the same.<\/p>\n<p>Sure, 2011 was turbulent for many.\u00a0 In Europe, we seemed to leave the year with an uneasy sense of unknowingness about what lies ahead in 2012 for the Eurozone.\u00a0 And we are told that the world is now so connected that we don\u2019t need New York to sneeze before the rest of the world catches a cold.\u00a0 The sneeze could come from Berlin or Beijing or anywhere else for that matter.<\/p>\n<p>Yet there is nothing like a conscience and a critical review to remind you of what you committed to and what you forecast might happen&#8230;. And writing a blog is somehow a very public way of saying that I commit to something at the start of a New Year.<\/p>\n<p>So it was that I was surprised to find that <a href=\"http:\/\/lornemitchell.com\/?p=379\">I went public this time last year<\/a> to reduce my bodyweight.\u00a0 Apparently this is the most common New Year\u2019s resolution that people make.\u00a0 I did actually manage to lose a stone between January and April last year &#8211; only to put on 9 pounds between April and Christmas!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lornemitchell.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/how-to-create-sales-habits.jpg\"><img data-attachment-id=\"820\" data-permalink=\"http:\/\/www.lornemitchell.com\/?attachment_id=820\" data-orig-file=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.lornemitchell.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/how-to-create-sales-habits.jpg?fit=558%2C565\" data-orig-size=\"558,565\" data-comments-opened=\"1\" data-image-meta=\"{&quot;aperture&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;credit&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;camera&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;created_timestamp&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;copyright&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;focal_length&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;iso&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;shutter_speed&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;&quot;}\" data-image-title=\"how-to-create-sales-habits\" data-image-description=\"\" data-image-caption=\"\" data-medium-file=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.lornemitchell.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/how-to-create-sales-habits.jpg?fit=296%2C300\" data-large-file=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.lornemitchell.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/how-to-create-sales-habits.jpg?fit=525%2C532\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-820\" title=\"how-to-create-sales-habits\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lornemitchell.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/how-to-create-sales-habits.jpg?resize=525%2C532\" alt=\"\" width=\"525\" height=\"532\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.lornemitchell.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/how-to-create-sales-habits.jpg?w=558 558w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.lornemitchell.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/how-to-create-sales-habits.jpg?resize=296%2C300 296w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 525px) 100vw, 525px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>So often, (in weight loss AND in business performance), the gains are difficult enough to achieve &#8211; but even harder to sustain.\u00a0 It is not that my body needs to be as heavy as it is.\u00a0 It is more about habit &#8211; and changing the habits that have been laid down over a lifetime. \u00a0It didn&#8217;t take much for me to revert to my old habits as the summer came and the bees started to make honey!<\/p>\n<p>Reading the press over the New Year, it was interesting to see that the UK population has become more and more obese &#8211; and some say over 35% is now obese.\u00a0 As has the banking system and, perhaps many of the service organisations that try to service our needs &#8211; or so the current UK government thinks.<\/p>\n<p>So the question for me is how to we can reduce weight and sustain a healthy lifestyle in a world that seems to becoming more obese.<\/p>\n<p>My diet last year where I managed to lose a stone in weight was not really a diet.\u00a0 I never felt hungry the whole time I was on the regime.\u00a0 I simply reduced the number of calories I ate.<\/p>\n<p>In a similar way, the two puppies that we took on in September are a good weight &#8211; because they get fed the correct amount of food each day. \u00a0It is interesting, also, that we have never been as healthy as our parents and grandparents were the 1940s when the country had food rationing.<\/p>\n<p>It is not so much, then, about reducing weight. \u00a0It is more about eating the correct amount you need to achieve and maintain a natural bodyweight.<\/p>\n<p>So, for this year, as well as reducing weight (another stone would do), I resolve to try to sustain the weight loss. \u00a0I would also like to do the reverse for my business &#8211; increase the revenues and sustain the flow! \u00a0Funny that in March last year I earned the most in a month when my weight reduced the most!<\/p>\n<p>Maybe one idea works with the other.\u00a0 Who knows?\u00a0 Maybe the Lean Folk know.\u00a0 Makes you think, anyway!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>You are probably past the point of setting New Year\u2019s resolutions and have forgotten the one you set last year.\u00a0 Yet when you look back a year and look forward a year, it is surprising how little changes and how much stays the same.
